The site in Genk is our European epicentre for recycling activities. It is certified ISO 9001/14001, which is proof of follow-up of strict procedures and quality management.

The site that Bioterra is exploiting in Genk today (since 2014) is completely water-bound and covers 70% of the deliveries. The site spans over 13,5 hectares.

Since 2016, Bioterra has been operating a high-performance physico-chemical cleaning installation (wet separation plant) in Genk, fully engineered in-house and equipped to process the most complex mineral waste flows into high-quality recycled aggregates. This installation is a well-thought-out composition of various separation techniques and has no equal, certainly not in Belgium and, in our humble opinion, also not in Europe.

The Genk site is tri-modal, accessible via road, waterway, and by railroad.

The ships will all be unloaded via our own quay of 120 meters and 3,5 meters draft. It is at this site that most investments are made ensuring the production and re-use of high-quality recycled aggregates. Nowadays, 600.000 tons of incoming soils/sludge/mineral waste are processed in Genk.

Besides the wet processing of complex mineral waste (incl. contaminated soils), the site is also equipped to receive and process soils and stone rich fraction contaminated with asbestos. Inevitably, the concentration, type and actual fraction distribution of the asbestos will be assessed before we can proceed to acceptance.

As Bioterra in Genk accepts the widest range of waste streams, we also focussed on the processing and maximum internal re-use of our own waste waters. Therefore, the site is equipped with a powerful water purification plant, combined with the storage of 8.000m³ of water. With this equipment we aim for complete re-use of our own waste waters resulting in the lack of eject to the municipal sewer systems, thus keeping all kinds of contaminants within our own boundaries.
