Our Dredgers
Our seagoing fleet consists of 6 Trailing Suction Hopper Dredgers (TSHD). Each with their different capabilities and sizes. However, the dredging process is mainly the same.
DC Orisant
This is the largest dredger of Group De Cloedt with a capacity of approximately 5,700 m3 or just under 10,000 tonnes. This vessel is mainly active in gravel extraction and on large projects. This ship has an unloading conveyor of approximately 65 meters for the unloading of dry material directly on the quay. In addition, it has a bow coupling, which allows it to be connected to a floating pipe to discharge sand over a long distance. Finally, it has a rainbow nozzle, which allows it to spray the sand over a distance of 70 meters.
DC Ostend
The DC Ostend is our other vessel that is active in the extraction of gravel. It has a capacity of approximately 2,800 m3 or more than 5,000 tons. Currently working mainly for our colleagues in Denmark. The ship has an unloading belt of about 20 meters and is also equipped with a bow coupling.
DC Vlaanderen 3000
One of our vessels that are active in the extraction of sea sand is the DC Vlaanderen. With a capacity of 2,600 m3 or more than 4,000 tonnes, this ship mainly sails at our depots on the Belgian coast. The ship is equipped with an unloading conveyor of approximately 35 meters and can only unload the cargo of sea sand dry on shore.
RIO
The Rio is in fact seen as our 'project ship'. It is a jack of all trades and is therefore widely used at home and abroad. The ship has an unloading conveyor of approximately 30 meters and can therefore unload its capacity of 2,350 m3 or 3,800 tons dry on shore. It can also spray its cargo wet in barges. This is done by means of a so-called ship's loading pipe that sprays the sea sand mixed with water into the adjacent barge. Furthermore, the ship has a bow coupling and a rainbow nozzle so that, just like the DC Orisant, it can be connected to a floating pipe or spray the sea sand over a short distance into a work.
DC Brugge
Previously, this ship sailed as a coaster, DC Merwestone. A few years ago, the ship was converted into a dredger and was given the name DC Brugge. The ship has a capacity of 2,400 m3 or 3,800 tons. One of the features of this ship is that it has 2 separate barges. As a result, it is able to carry 2 different types of sea sand. The working area of the DC Brugge is mainly Breskens for the transhipment of sea sand in inland vessels for the Belgian market. Because the ship also has an unloading conveyor of approximately 30 meters, it can also be used, for example, on the Belgian coast for the delivery of dry sea sand directly to shore.
Interballast III
The Interballast III has a hopper capacity of 1,400 m3 or 2,250 tonnes, it collects sea sand daily from the Dutch and Belgian concessions for Breskens. The sea sand is always transhipped wet in barges that sail to Belgium or France. This ship does not have an unloading conveyor for dry unloading, so it is only active for the loading of barges.
Many of our customers are located further inland in Belgium or even all the way in France. In order to be able to serve these customers as well, we mainly use inland vessels that can wash the cargo of sea sand along the way. These types of ships are also known as barges. When they sail on freshwater on their way to their destination, water is sprayed over the cargo using pumps. The water then finds its way through the sand to the bottom, taking all the salt particles with it. A drainage channel at the bottom of the ship then ensures the drainage of the salt water back into the canal. The load of sea sand is then desalinated, i.e. stripped of all saline components that are not desirable for, for example, the production of concrete or leaching into the groundwater.
RIO 1
This is DC Dredging BV's largest barge. It has a capacity of approximately 997 m3 or 1,750 tonnes.
Joro
The JORO is a barge of approx. 1,000 m3 or 1,650 tonnes. This barge can load both wet and dry cargo and is currently mainly used for Bioterra's soil transports or for DC Industrial’s domestic dredging activities. For many years, this barge has been pushed by the Lummie.
Margaret Ann
We are dealing with a special ship with the Margaret Ann. You can think of it as one of our dredging vessels, but for inland waterways. It can therefore extract sand itself from, for example, the IJsselmeer, carry out dredging work or be used only as a hopper vessel. The capacity of the Margaret Ann is 735 m3 or 1,200 tonnes.
we also have a number of barge vessels for charter hire and some that sail for us on a fixed basis based on price per ton.
