Description of the works

As part of the 3000 t (category V) gauge of the canals of northern France, the waterways of France (VNF) have subdivided the Deûle Canal crossing Lille into three sectors to be widened before the end of 2022. Group De Cloedt, in association with a partner, takes care of all the dredging and disposal work of waste and sediment of all types extracted from the Grand Carré sector (6km).
A clean-up of the waste and wrecks detected during the initial bathymetry had to be carried out prior to the dredging of the sediments.

Our added value

The sediments were initially characterized to be referred during dredging to the appropriate treatment lines in Belgium and France. Indeed, pollution with mineral oils and heavy metals has been detected in a good part of the analysed sediments.

During the first campaign at the end of 2021, Group De Cloedt evacuated and treated more than 40,000m³ of sediment thanks to its own treatment centres (Bioterra) and partners. During the second dredging campaign planned for 2022, 25,000m³ of sediment will be taken care of by Group De Cloedt.
