Description of the works

  • Stringent site requirement with separated black (contaminated) and white (uncontaminated) zones for working areas and use of decontamination units for the personnel.
  • Stringent requirement to obtain sufficient compressive strength after 24 hours in order to continue works at required pace.
  • Works carried out with special provisions and care in relation to unexploded ordnances (UXO).
  • Works carried out under continuous monitoring and stability measurement of old quay walls.
  • Complete environmental management of the site, such as constant PID measurements at the borders and hot spots of the site location. Dust reduction measures with a mobile water atomizer and floating devices.
  • In-situ stabilisation of 23 067 m³ of contaminated sediments up to a depth of 7m below the surface.
  • Treatment of polluted groundwater 10 m³/h (hydrocarbons, BTEX and chlorinated solvents). Water treatment plant consisting of a buffer tank, hydrocarbon separator, sand filter and active carbon filter.
  • Demolition and removal of various foundations and structures, excavation, and evacuation of old debris.
  • Backfill and placement of 9 655 m³ of RC, BMG and sand.
  • 1 414 m² temporary roads constructed with special provision in function of potential UXO.

Our added value

  • Lab research into the most suitable type of cement: value engineering through research and optimal formulation of best suited stabilization/solidification method and additive matrix composition and type.
  • Works carried out in separate designated areas in order to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Works carried out in UXO environment and site control safety measures.
  • Tailor-made emissions control: works carried out under stringent air emission control monitoring and associated measures.
  • Water management optimisation: works carried out in accordance with specific in-house design for water resources management and treatment.
  • Shorter execution time: works carried out within foreseen program.
